The King Cobra has a hood that becomes flared when it is disturbed or angry. Its hood sticks out due to the extension of the ribs behind the cobras' head. Cobras are often found in the Philippines, south Asia and Africa. It is the world's longest poisonous snake and can grow to just over 18 feet. This snake is responsible for thousands of deaths annually in India alone. It can also spit it's venom out at a distance of about 8 feet. If the venom gets into your eyes it will cause temporary blindness and if it is not treated it may cause permanent blindness.

The king cobra can control how and when it will release venom when it becomes an adult depending on it's percieved threat. If you are bitten by a cobra you need to get serum to counteract the effects of the snake bite. It you don't you will die as the venom will destroy your nervous system. The Cobra's venom is also used by the snake to help it aid in digesting it's prey.

The cobra's main enemy is the zebra mongoose. The mongoose is built for snake-fighting. They are 98% effective in killing their cobra pray because they are fast, agile and have a thich coat that protects them from the snake venom. Cobra skins are highly valuable as an exotic leather and there is no protective legislation for the king cobra. A cobra's meal may last a very long time.

This snake can survive on little food just like other snakes because it doesn't need much food to maintain a steady body temperature and can remain in active for long periods of time. The Cobra can also store tons of body body to live off of. Cobras often feeds on eggs and chicks raided from poultry houses, in addition to small mammals, toads, lizards, birds and other snakes.
